En pointe means "on the tip" and is a part of classical ballet technique, practiced using specially reinforced shoes called pointe shoes or toe shoes. The technique developed from the desire for dancers to appear weightless and sylph-like and has evolved to enable dancers to dance on the tips of their toes for extended periods of time.

The Lyrical dance style has its primary basis in ballet, combining the many technical elements of classical ballet with the freedom, fluidity, expressiveness and airier aspects of jazz, contemporary and modern dance. It is typically considered a sub-category of jazz and/or contemporary dance. Lyrical dance is expressive, simultaneously subtle and dynamic, focused on conveying musicality and emotion through movement.

Jazz Technique

No matter how you slice it, a dancer is not going to excel in any style without an adequate level of technique. While most consider technique to be all about steps and terminology, it can also refer to an execution of style. Jazz dance techniques of style are of the utmost importance, especially for dancers who participate in performance and/or competition. Without a stylistic flair, jazz dance quickly becomes mundane. In our jumps and turns class students will focus on technique, style and execution. There is no choreography involved, which gives students ample time to learn new skills and perfect those they already have.
